First Wash Disaster!

Well, I did my first wash yesterday...........
I'm not at all impressed. I braided and banded, used Neutrogena T/Gel for my flaky scalp, and SL starter shampoo for my locks. After the wash, I unbraided and I looked like a deranged Fraggle! Not only that, I had major slippage in the back and around the nape of my neck. I am so frustrated, I don't know what to do.
I also have the lovely "snowing indoors" problem. I have the flakiest scalp around these parts. I have tried essential oil and water in a spritz to no avail. Please, anybody that can help, I welcome all suggestions.....

Congrats on getting locs. Could it be the shampoo you're using? Try moisturizing your hair frequently with water throughout the day. I had the same problem in the beginning.

I too had lots of slippage near the nape at the beginning, and even after my second retightening. It's not you or anything you are doing I am sure.

Maybe try attacking your dandruff problems from the inside out? Maybe try a mini cleanse or at least up your water intake, good vitamins and avoid processed foods. I live in a severely dry climate and I find drinking tons of water certainly helps.

I can relate to the disgrutle scared chicken look when you first get s/l. Flaky scalp is common and so is slippage... don't trip too hard its apart of the process. This locking thang has it's ups and down. But in the end you will love your hair

Before my first wash, I too had a terribly itchy scalp, even though I did not have the accompanying flakes. I used Kera Care Shampoo for dry and itchy scalp. It is very thick and concentrated, so I diluted it. It worked like a charm, and it smells really nice.

I also had the sort of unruly looking locks after my first wash. I set up my hair on tiny perm rods. This gave my hair a neater appearance. If you decide to try the perm rods, use them with end papers. It makes the short hair easier to handle.

Hang in there, I too had a lot of unraveling and slippage. This is to be expected with very short hair. Soon, that will be a problem of the past.

Rest assured that your hair will thicken in no time at all. My hair looked just like your in the beginning but after about 3 months it started taking on a better appearance. I still have problems with itchy flakey scalp. Hold your head high and keep on struttin.

Hang in there, sis... you are experiencing transition. Do please lay off ANY oils and try a homemade baking soda wash and Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Rinse. Expect some slippage throughout your entire pre-loc maturation stages. Just have your SL Consultant re-Sisterlock 'em then YOU be sure to band when you wash your new SLs.

Be encouraged, my dear sistah... you may not be feelin' deep Sisterlocks love right now for your hair, but recognize that you are so very fresh on your personal SL journey.

Your scalp will adjust, your hair will grow, thicken, and lengthen but not before you have slippage, bunching, swelling, lint issues, shrinkage, and whatnot. Trust me, I speak the truth. (See my humble beginnings with permed ends - yet another Sisterlocks trip

Keep blogging on your experiences...it's theraputic & you'll help so many others!! This is one of the best decisions you have made regarding your hair. Stay the course!! Welcome to the Sisterlocks Family!!!

Hehee. You sound like I did my first month with sisterlocks. This too shall pass. I use Nizoral, and it works for me. It's not a moisturizing shampoo (it's even LESS moisturizing than the SL starter shampoo) so it will help prevent slippage, too.
